Stiff, The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach; 2003; W.W. Norton & Company, New York; 303 pages; 611 R628s; 7/28-8/2
Wow, who knew there were so many ways besides burial and cremation to dispose of a body. Roach shows us many ways that cadavers can be used for research of all types. Also the way various cultures dispose of bodies and other uses that cadavers can fulfill. Roach discusses it all in a manner which is neither lighthearted or overly severe. An interesting discussion of our bodies after our soul departs. RRRR

I loved Stiff! I picked it up and B&N one afternoon and poked through it, thinking of my daughter who was taking Anatomy and how she might like it. Then I sat down. The next thing I knew, I was closing the book, it was dark outside and I fuzzily called home to explain that I wasn’t dead (no pun intended), just waylaid by a really great book!
Man, I forgot about Stiff! I put it on my list to read eons ago when it first came out, but didn’t want to wait forever for it at the library. Maybe it’s on the shelves now. Time to check it out (literally)!
