What if New York City was isolated

Takedown by Brad Thor; 2006; 402 pages; Atria Books, New York, NY; 978-0-7432-7118-9; 3/3/09-3/5/09

Our story begins with our hero, Scot Harvath, capturing a known terrorist bomber in Canada and then handing him over to another United States intelligence agency.  They then take him to an undisclosed location to try and get some information from him.  His fellow terrorist learn the location and go after him.  They do this by first taking a school in Manhattan hostage and then blowing up every tunnel and bridge into New York, they prevent reinforcments from coming by having snipers taking aim at all planes, heliocopters and sea going vessels.  Lucky for the United States that Scot Harvath is trapped in New York with several other former Special Forces soldiers.  Scot and his team of misfits are one step behind the terrorist most of the book, until almost the end.  However the the two biggest terrorist get away at the end, because the U.S. is using them to get a bigger fish.  They allow Scot the pleasure of taking the two terrorist out at the end.  Scott has split up with up with Meg Cassidy from the previous couple of books, but Takedown finds him hooking up with a former Female EOD officer, Tracy Hastings.  However that realtionship is ended by someone who Scot had thought was dead and buried.  This story has one of the most moving funeral scenes that I have ever read, the symbolic exfiltration of one of the Special Forces soldiers will some day make a great scene in a movie.  This is one of the best books in the Scot Harvath series.  RRRR
