A Very Practical Look at Creation Care

Gardening Eden, How Creation Care Will Change Your Faith, Your Life and Our World by Michael Abbate; 2009;254 pages; Waterbrook Press, Colorado Springs, CO; 978-0-30744-499-8; 4/11/09-4/15/09

In the interest of full disclosure Mike Abbate is a friend of mine, with whom I have had some great discussions about all kinds of issues.

Mike gives valid reasons why Christians should care about the environment.  He effectively presents several different Christian views of environmentalism and shows a scriptural view of what he believes.  God made creation and said repeatedly that it was good, God made a nudist vegan gardener to take care of his creation.  Ever since we, the descendants of that gardener, have not been taking good care of Gods’ creation.  Having dominion, to me, means being good stewards of what God has given us.  We have not done that and as Christians have often ignored creation care.  Mike does not leave this at a theoretical level, he presents 5 chapters of Gardening Tips, tips on how to more effectively care for the creation that God has given us.

I have already started reading this a second time and have started underlining and highlighting things.  I am adding this to my annual reading list, as something I will read at least one year.  RRRR

I second the recommendation. I, too, in interest of full-disclosure, admit to a friendship with Mike. But, I honestly think I’d like this book even if I didn’t know the author.
