Capture by Robert K. Tannenbaum; 2009; 435 pages; Pocket Books, New York, NY; 978-1-4391-4860-0; 7/11/09-7/15/09
As much as I love Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi and their family and friends, I don’t know if I will read any more of the books in this series. Too often there is a minor case that Butch, as Brooklyn DA, get involved in that ties into a major international incident that some other part of his family is involved in. In this book Butch is participating in a retrial of a scum bag Broadway producer who is on trial for murder, while Lucy and Ned are involved in stopping a plot to use an liquid natural gas tanker to blow up part of New York by middle eastern Islamic radicals. However Tanenbaum decides again to not give Al Qaeda credit, but has them being used by a shadowy group who wants to take over the US. Some of the action is just too far fetched, and Butch has too many tools too quicky available. The plots are becoming more and more fantastic and are tending to become unbeliveable. Tanenbaum needs to return to what makes this series for me, his relationship with his wife, kids and associates at the DAs’ office. RR
Yeah, you’ve GOT to be able to suspend disbelief, or it’s just no fun.
