Another Chapter in the Saturday Serial

The Five Greatest Warriors by Matthew Reilly; 2010; 381 pages; Simon and Schuster, New York, NY; 978-1-416-7757-7; 2/10-2/12; Checked out from Multnomah County Library, Albina

The 5 Greatest Warriors follows the adventures of Captain Jack West Jr. in 7 Ancient Wonders and The 6 Sacred Stones.  It is a direct continuation of both of those stories, with a the same basic cast of characters and a couple of ultra nasty new villains thrown in.  They have come up with a whole new way to punish/torture their vicg tims.  Jack and his multinational team are racing against time to prevent the destruction of the planet earth.  They are also racing against several other teams that want to save the planet, but with different motives and one team that wants to ensure the destruction of the planet, because that will somehow restore their honor that they lost as a result of losing a multinational conflict. The team races from place to place, Diego Garcia, the UK, Easter Island, Israel and Australia.   Reilly’s’ imagination is wonderful and the locations and traps are much more complex than anything we have ever seen before.  Once again a page turner that caused me to stay up too late, not notice the bus was at my stop, going past my stop once I got on the bus.  Grade-A+
