Blackout

Blackout byJohn J. Nance; 2000; G.P. Putnam’s Sons, New York; 435 pages; Fiction Nance; 12/28-12/29

Kat Bronsky is back. A high flying adventure all over the world as some of the US government alphabet soup intelligence agencies attempt to cover their respectives asses. Romance, particle beams and all other kinds of things contribute to a real page turner. I stayed up til 5 AM reading it. Nance is a real good author especially about aviation. RRR

Sickened : The Memoir of a Munchausen by Proxy Childhood

Sickened, The Memoir of a Munchausen by Proxy Childhood by Julie Gregory; 2003; Bantam Books, New York; 244 pages; 616.85822 G822s; 12/27-12/28

Julie Gregory paints a vivid picture of a childhood lost to her mother’s obsession with her health. Munchausen by Proxy is when a parent keeps their child sick so that they have some way to stay the center of attention. Julie writes so well that you become part of her world, if this book does not make you cry, there is some part of you missing. She is such a great writer that I would like to read more by her. RRR

By the Light of the Moon

By the Light of the Moon by Dean Koontz; 2002; Bantam Books, New York; Fiction Koontz; 431 pages; 12/25-12/27

A Southwest Amazon comedian, an artist and his autistic brother are injected with nanobots against their wills. It changes them each in a completely different way. As they change and are trying to figure out who did this and who is trying to catch them they confront mercenaries, save various people from danger, reunite long lost relatives and grow stronger. Koontz keeps you wondering what is going on and why, there is no surprise ending just a logical end to the story. Great storytelling and a wonderful ride around the southwest.

God's Politics : Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It

God’s Politics, Why The Right Gets It Wrong and The Left Doesn’t Get It by Jim Wallis; 2005; HarperSanFrancisco, New York; 261.7 W214g; 12/17-12/25

A call for Christ-followers to basically abandon their respective political parties and follow the politics of God. Caring for the poor, being good stewards of the enviroment, opposing the one party of the United States. The two parties aren’t all that different, one ignores God and the other makes him a one or two issue God, one ignores the poorest and the other gives lip service to the poor. The Democrat and Republicans have so polarized spirituality that people have to choose what they view as the lesser of two evils. Jim Wallis challenges everyone who really wants to be a Christ-follower to reexamine politics and their stances on vital issues. Free trade vs. Fair Trade. Corporations vs. the Poor. If you really believe in following Christ and think things need to change, you need to read this. RRRRReallyRead

Crash Course (Hover Car Racer)

Hover Car Racer, Crash Course by Matthew Reilly; 2004; Simon & Schuster, New York; 208 pages; Teen Fiction Reilly; 12/16-12/17

The first, obviously upon reading, in a series about a 14 year old young man who is a up and coming hover car racer. Set in the near future, Reilly has written a book as exciting as any of his other books, for young people. The book has a wide range of characters who are very diverse. I am looking forward to reading more in the series. RRR
