Skin by Ted Dekker; 2007; Thomas Nelson, Inc, Brentwood, TN; 394 pages; Fiction Dekker/978-1-59554-277-9 ; 5/18-5/20
Wendy, Colt, Nicole, Pinkus and Carey are brought together in Summerville by the killer known as Sterling Red. Sometimes the town just disappears and all that is left is the desert. Sterling Red has demanded that the five of them kill the ugliest among them or he will kill them all. Wendy sees black flashes in the sky which makes her wonder if there is something else going on. We do not know what is going on until the characters do. Well worth reading, a classic tale of good vs. evil. RRr

The Hardcore Diaries by Mick Foley; 2007; Pocket Books, New York; 371 pages; 796.812 F663h/978-1-4165-3157-9; 5/14-5/16
Mick Foley approached Vince McMahon about a writing project for WWE and Vince suggested another autobiography. That would make three, Mick has played many parts in the WWE, but three autobiographies would seem excessive, even from a writer as good as Mick. So what we have here is part memoir and part behind the scenes in what goes on in in the WWE. Mick tracks his part in 2006’s SummerSlam and some other PPV’s from the first creative meeting right up until the match takes place. Insightful of what goes on before the wrestlers come to the ring. Mick pulls no punches, he is critical of Mr. McMahon, but Vince went ahead and published the book. Mick also balances his criticisms with praise for where Vince shines. RRR
It is Thursday evening, but I think I will be very busy tomorrow, so I am going to try this tonight.
1. You should check out Thoughts from The Deep Recesses. Cathy is very insightful and quite humorous, and you could win a prize.
2. I don’t know about where you are, but here stores hire people to hold signs urging people to shop there. Do the stores ever consider the people they hire? I have seen some people holding signs that I wouldn’t want to talk to. The stores have strict policies for the people who work in them, but seem to have no concern about peoples first impressions from the people holding the signs.
3. We are buying our first house. I have never signed my name so many times or initialed so many things, and we haven’t even got to closing yet. I am told that when we get to that we will get writers cramp.
4. Just saw another clip of a father coming home from Iraq and surprising their sons at school. I can’t watch those without crying. I remember those times my Dad would come home from being gone for 8 months in the Navy.
5. We are looking forward to moving into our first home by the end of this month.
Blink by Ted Dekker; 2002; WestBow Press, Nashville, TN, 389 pages; Fiction Dekker/1-5955-4043-1; 5/7-5/10
Ted Dekker spins a wonderful web to entrap us and force us to find time to read his books. Blink is the story of Seth and Miriam and their relationship. When the story begins Seth is a genius studying at the University of California at Beserkley, and Miriam is a woman promised in marriage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The lives come together in Berkeley after Miriam flees the Kingdom and Seth finds that he can see into the future. He sees multiple futures and selects that one that is best for him. This ability causes him to question belief in either the Christian God or Allah, but when he arranges a contest between them, like Elijah and the prophets of Baal, he believes. The story moves across the western US and the world after Miriam flees, and is pursued by two different groups from Saudi Arabia, local law enforcement, the FBI, the State Department and the NSA. A great action thriller. RRRr
